AS EVERYONE WISHED me well, some, when they realized it was my twenty-sixth birthday, went as far as to commend me for being at the gathering at all, rather than sitting at home crying over the fact that I was this old and still not married. Apparently, that is what twenty-six year old unmarried sisters are supposed to do. I guess.Â
One birthday wish I received that evening stood out to me, not for it's kindness, but for its unintended sting. A well-meaning friend congratulated me, then smiled and said, "Welcome to the nobody's group!" Her words did not faze me much then, I brushed it off with a quick: "Lord, forgive them, they know not what they say..."Â
